Pleural Thickening may be caused by exposure to asbestos. Occasionally asbestos fibres irritate the pleura (layered membrane which surrounds the lungs) and cause scaring. It may become widespread and cause the pleura to thicken. This thickening is called diffuse pleural thickening. Diffuse pleural thickening may extend over a large area and could restrict expansion of the lungs, leading to breathlessness. A lesser type of Pleural Thickening is the disease Pleural Plaques.
Symptoms include:
- Chest pain and tightness, generally after physical exertion.
- Sufferers of Pleural thickening may also suffer psychological stress in the fear that they could develop a more serious asbestos related disease.
How much is an asbestos related Pleural Thickening claim worth?
All cases are different. However successful compensation claims may be between £21,000 and £45,000. Damages are for guidance only.
